Why use granite countertops?

You probably know that granite countertops are very popular, but why does everyone use them? Here are the top three reasons that people gravitate towards granite when choosing a new countertop.

1. Granite is Durable and Worry-Free

Many people choose granite for their countertops because it lets them enjoy their beautiful new countertop without worrying about scratches or damage. Feel free to cut or chop as much as you want on your new granite countertop. You will have beat your granite countertop with a sledgehammer to your granite countertop before you see any damage or scratches!

People have been using granite for thousands of years because its surface is almost as hard as a diamond. Granite is very beautiful and is resistant to scratches, stains, and heat damage. There is not anything much more durable for countertops than a natural stone material like granite.

The reason granite is so durable is because of the unique way the crystals form inside the rock. The crystals do not fully develop into individual crystals; the crystals inside of granite actually grow together into each other. The crystals form an extremely solid interlocking structure by growing together in this way. This is also the reason that granite looks so grainy, and is also where granite got its name!

Granite also is great at keeping free from mildew or mold buildup.

2. Granite Gives You Lots of Design Options

There is virtually no end to the different kinds of colors, patterns, and grains that you can find when using granite for your countertops. This means that the particular granite slab used for your countertop will be totally unique to you! The reason there are so many different color varieties is because there are a lot of different kinds of crystals inside a slab of granite. Colors will change depending on what types of crystals are inside each different piece of granite.

Mica crystals have a metallic look, and add silver, dark black, deep brown, pink, and even purple colors to granite. Mica is the reason why granite always looks like it has just been polished! Quartz crystals do not have a color, so they either look clear or reflect the colors given off by the other crystals in the rock. Quartz is the most common crystal you will find inside of granite, and is the reason granite is so durable and resistant to heat damage.

Feldspar crystals make up most of the colors that appear in granite, such as blue, orange, pink, yellow, and even black. Feldspar is the second most common crystal found inside of a granite slab. Biotite and Horneblend crystals make up the grey, black, and white salt and pepper color that most people usually think of when they think of granite. This is the most common type of granite used in countertops.

With so many colors to choose from, it is easy to select granite that will fit in with your kitchen or bathroom remodeling design and yet remain timeless.

3. Granite is Affordable

Compared to other types of natural stone materials, granite is much more affordable. Granite can often look quite a bit like the other, more expensive types of countertop materials. So you can have that expensive marble look at a more affordable price!

You can also use different types of finishes to help make granite look even more like one of the more expensive types of countertop materials.

What Our Customers Are Saying

We recently bought our home and hired The One Floors for a new Laminate floor installed. I was so impressed from start to finish. They really have done a great job. The installation was done on time and with perfection. My floors looks extravagant. The One Floors was a pleasure to work with and I would definitely recommend them!

In spite of several reschedules due to real estate closing delays, AND due to heavy rain, Hank Abbas was able to work in the project, got the demolition (removal of ALL flooring in a 1500 sq ft house) and installed leveling material and tile in 6 days. It was wood-look tile that is usually very expensive but the entire cost including materials and labor was about $5 per sq ft. Great work at a great price!

Hank and the Team at The One Floors helped me out in a time crunch and did a great job. I manage an office building in the Montrose area where we sprang a leak and needed a rush order on carpeting. They catered to my rush order and installed the floors right on time. A job well done. I highly recommend The One Floors if you are in the greater Houston area.

We got quotes from 3 different installers and The One Floors was 40% below the other quotes. They re-tiled the entire 1500 sq ft house in only 6 days, and the cost for labor and materials was a little less than $5 per sq foot. The project turned out great! They gave us a 1 year warranty on the installation. I would recommend The One Floors to anyone who needs a project done quickly and economically.
